The Mons Florentinus (Florence Mountain) is in fact a hill which rises behind the city. Its history is caught between ancient myths and modern renovations, going through the most excellent Renaissance works.
In this walk, you will discover the Rose Garden, a precious jewel of land art embedded among walls and houses, which houses charming sculptures, a Japanese garden and rare Florentine rose plants. You will see the Piazzale Michelangelo, which dates back to the times when Florence was the capital of Italy. Here, you will have the chance to behold one of the most breathtaking views in the world.
The tour then moves on to discover the churches upon the hill: San Salvatore, Michelangelo’s most favourite church, and San Miniato, the most spectacular church in Florence, with a marble façade that has enchanted writers, artists and travellers throughout the centuries. Inside, you will see beautiful 14th century frescoes, 13th century mosaics and magnificent Renaissance works of art.
The tour includes the Porte Sante Graveyard, an elaborately theatrical space which keeps the memory of the eminent Florentine people.
